Doordeck End-User Guide

The Doordeck App is focused around unlocking doors; there are a number of ways to interact with doors, they can be directly unlocked from inside the app, if the door has a tile they can be used via QR codes or NFC and for favourite or pinned doors, they can be unlocked from outside the app using a widget.

a. How to unlock a door from within the Doordeck app

  1. On the Keys screen, tap the key for the required lock once to activate it.
  2. On the activated key, tap Press to Unlock.
  3. The smartphone will vibrate once as the key displays an unlock icon and countdown dial. The lock will be open until the countdown dial disappears and the key returns to its neutral state.

b. How to use NFC scan (iPhone 7 upwards only)

  1. On the Keys screen, tap the NFC scan button.
  2. Tap the iPhone against a Doordeck tile to unlock the door.
  3. An unlock icon and countdown dial will pop up on the screen while the door is unlocked. When the unlock window has passed, the user will be automatically returned to the Keys screen.
  4. PLEASE NOTE: Keys must be added to a user’s Doordeck account for NFC scan to work.

c. How to use QR code scan (older iPhone models only)

  1. On the Keys screen, tap the QR code scan button. The camera’s viewfinder will appear on the screen.
  2. Line up the box in the viewfinder with the QR code on a Doordeck tile to unlock the door.
  3. An unlock icon and countdown dial will pop up on the screen while the door is unlocked. When the unlock window has passed, the user will be automatically returned to the Keys screen.
  4. PLEASE NOTE: Keys must be added to a user’s Doordeck account for QR code scan to work.

d. How to customise key colour

  1. On the Keys screen, tap the door’s key once to activate it.
  2. On the activated key, tap the cog icon to enter the key’s Settings screen.
  3. Tap Change key colour to select a colour for the key on the home screen, then tap Close to return to the Settings screen.
  4. Tap Back to return to the Keys screen.

e. How to pin keys

  1. On the Keys screen, tap the door’s key once to activate it.
  2. On the activated key, tap the cog icon to enter the key’s Settings screen.
  3. Flick the Pin key to top switch, then tap Back to return to the Keys screen.
  4. On the Keys screen, tap the site name at the top of the screen to view the drop-down list of sites.
  5. One of the site options will be Pinned Locks. Tap it to view all the keys you have pinned.
  6. If the Doordeck widget has been installed, pinning a key will also make it appear in the widget for even quicker access.

f. How to delete keys from an account

  1. On the Keys screen, tap the door’s key once to activate it.
  2. On the activated key, tap the cog icon to enter the key’s Settings screen.
  3. Tap Delete key to permanently remove this key from the Keys screen.
  4. PLEASE NOTE: Once deleted, the key can only be re-added by an administrator.
  5. Tap Back to return to the Keys screen.

g. How to change your account password

  1. On the Keys screen, tap the User Profile icon in the top-left corner. This will activate the User Profile menu.
  2. On the User Profile menu, tap Account to enter the User Account screen.
  3. In the User Account screen, tap the Old Password field to activate the keyboard. Type the existing password into the Old Password field, then tap Done to hide the keyboard.
  4. Tap the New Password field to activate the keyboard. Type the new password into the New Password field, then tap Done to hide the keyboard.
  5. Tap the Confirm New Password field to activate the keyboard. Type the new password into the Confirm New Password field, then tap Done to hide the keyboard.
  6. Tap Save to finalise the new password.
  7. Tap Your Keys to return to the Keys screen.

Unlocking from outside the app

h. How to install the Doordeck widgets

  1. On the iPhone’s Home screen, scroll to the far left to view the widget screen, and click the Edit button to activate the Add Widgets menu.
  2. Scroll down the menu to view all dormant widgets on the iPhone in More Widgets. If Doordeck is installed on the iPhone, two Doordeck widgets should be available: Doordeck and Doordeck Button. Tap the plus sign by each widget to install it on the iPhone.

i. How to use the Doordeck widget

Once installed, the Doordeck widget makes all pinned keys in the user’s Doordeck account accessible from the iPhone Home screen, whether the app is open or not. As usual, tap these keys twice to unlock.

j. How to use the Doordeck Button widget - NFC scan

  1. Once installed, the Doordeck Button widget places an NFC scan button on the iPhone Home screen.
  2. Tap this button once to activate the NFC scan function, then swipe the iPhone against a Doordeck tile to unlock the door.

k. How to use the Doordeck Button widget - QR code scan

  1. For older models of iPhone without the NFC function, the Doordeck Button will instead place a QR code scan button on the iPhone Home screen.
  2. Tap this button once to activate the QR code scan function. The camera’s viewfinder will appear on the screen.
  3. Line up the box in the viewfinder with the QR code on a Doordeck tile to unlock the door.

m. How to activate Doordeck using 3D Touch (available on iPhone 6s onwards)

  1. On the iPhone’s Home screen, 3D Touch the Doordeck app icon. (Apply more pressure when tapping the icon.)
  2. All pinned keys from the user’s Doordeck account will appear on the iPhone screen. Tap these keys twice to unlock.
  3. 3D Touch also offers the user the option to add the Doordeck widget to the iPhone’s Home screen if it isn’t already installed. Tap Add Widget to do so.

n. How to access the Doordeck web app from Doordeck.com

  1. From the Doordeck.com home page, select Login.
  2. On the Doordeck login screen, enter the email address and password for your Doordeck account. This will take you to the web app landing page.

o. Using the Doordeck web app as a standard user

  1. From the web app landing page, select the circular icon in the top left of the page to show the list of sites at which you have Doordeck access.
  2. Select a specific site name to show all the locks at that site for which your account has a key. Each lock will be marked as either Admin or User depending on your permission level.
  3. For the User locks, click the name of the lock to view the customisable settings. The admin screen also has the option to UNLOCK it.
